For the second day in a row, Pakistani police are trying to storm the residence of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan in order to arrest him for skipping court hearings in a gift sale case, Geo TV reports.

The day before, the arrest attempt was unsuccessful: Khan’s supporters clashed with Islamabad police near the residence in Lahore. Members of the Khan-led Justice Movement, who were asked by the 70-year-old ex-premier to continue fighting for the “rule of law,” gathered outside the building and prevented police from entering. The police used water cannons and tear gas to disperse the prime minister’s supporters. It was reported that in response, protesters threw stones at police officers, including from the roof of the politician’s residence. Five members of the Metropolitan Police were injured.

Protests also began in Karachi, Peshawar, Faisalabad and other major cities.

Previously, they had already tried to arrest Khan in early March, but the politician’s supporters did not let the police do it.

On March 1, an Islamabad court issued an arrest warrant for Imran Khan without bail for evading a hearing for hiding gifts he received from foreign dignitaries in declarations. Khan was suspected of embezzling 36 million Pakistani rupees ($137.7 thousand) from their sale. The politician denies all accusations.
