According to agency columnist Mark Gurman, the American company intends to expand the capabilities of its own AirPods series headphones. It is planned to update the headset to meet the requirements of devices for people with hearing loss. The specialist suggested that Apple engineers will actually turn AirPods into a hearing aid.

Mark Gurman noted that the company will add new features to its headset within the next year or two. The material says that many of the brand’s devices have health-oriented functions. In particular, AirPods have options that partially allow you to use the device as a hearing aid. However, the author noted, the company’s devices are not certified as medical devices by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The columnist said that the American IT giant has several patents related to the use of headphones as a medical device. In particular, Apple described the use of sensors hidden in the headset that collect data on heart rate and body temperature.

In November, an international team of scientists tested Apple’s popular headphones and compared them to medical hearing aids. According to experts, consumer wireless headsets can partially replace medical equipment for patients diagnosed with hearing loss.
