“She’s gone”, “She’s gone”. Those words, looking at the camera, say to a video a man accused of murdering his two-year-old stepdaughter in a case that is shaking the UK.

Lola James suffered serious brain damage after being attacked by her mother’s boyfriend, Kyle Bevan, 31, at their home in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire.

The injury is classified as catastrophic and Lola died on July 21, 2020 after suffering 101 external injuries and extensive damage to both eyes, Daily Mail notes.

The dramatic scene took place while Lola’s mother was sleeping upstairs on the morning of July 17 of that year.

The strong footage – of the man “trying to get the visibly injured Lola to her feet before dropping her to the floor” – was shown to a jury at Swansea Crown Court on Wednesday 8 March 2023.

To understand “catastrophic,” doctors “described brain injuries as similar to those seen in high-speed car crashes or falls from a great height, and not consistent with an accidental fall.”

The subject tried to lie about his stepdaughter’s death

Bevan had been living under the same roof as his partner and her daughter for 4 months.

The man tried to distance himself from the death of his stepdaughter.

According to the press, he denied any responsibility in the case, stating that the family’s pet, an American bulldog, had pushed Lola and she fell down the stairs.

Little Lola’s mother

Bevan is on trial along with Lola’s mother, Sinead James, 30, “charged with causing or facilitating her death”.

Sinead stated she had no reason to believe that Bevan would harm her, Clarín reported.

The same medium added that the court heard that James knew her boyfriend had “a disagreeable and violent character” but chose “to choose her relationship with him over the physical safety of her own daughter”.

Video and messages

The video was sent by Bevan in a message to his mother, Alison Bevan, at 6:58 AM.

The woman asked him to call emergency services. However, at 07:30, Bevan told her to do it herself.

Bevan also sent his mother pictures of Lola’s swollen face.

Google search

The press reports that “At 6:30 am on the morning of July 17, 2020, Bevan searched Google ‘my 2-year-old son just received a blow to the head and has gone limp and is snoring. ‘What’s happening’.

For the prosecution, Bevan delayed the search for help for Lola in order to “cover his tracks”.

Clarín reported: “(…) When the paramedics arrived, Lola was dressed, but was wet and seriously injured.”

“Stay Away From Him”

A friend of Lola’s mother, Casey Morgan, said she knew Bevan was using amphetamines and other controlled drugs. He drank a lot, he added.

He claimed he warned: I didn’t like it, I made it clear to Sinead. I told him to get rid of him (…).

The British are watching the process with pain and attention awaiting decisions.
