A moment of ingenuity pulled a man, who has yet to be identified, out of the snow on a remote Oregon road, where he was trapped by the storm.

The man was on a road in the Willamette National Forest, located in the Cascade Mountains, when his car stopped driving through the snow. According to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office of Search and Rescue, there was no cell phone coverage in the area, making it impossible to reach anyone from the road.

Fortunately, the man had a drone with him with which he sent a message for help. The message was written on his cell phone and sent to rescue authorities, but the message was not sent, so he tied his cell phone to the drone and flew it hundreds of feet into the air to get service.

The message was thus sent and the man only had to wait in his car for the rescuers to arrive.

“The increased altitude allowed his phone to connect to a tower and send the message, which resulted in our teams fanning out and helping him out of his situation,” said the search and rescue group, which also celebrated the man’s decision to go in to stay in the air. car and wait.

“Rarely does someone in Oregon die from weather exposure while waiting in their vehicle to be found and rescued, but unfortunately we’ve seen a lot of bad outcomes from those who chose to drive away,” officials said.

They added that anyone going out should tell a trusted person exactly where they are going and when they will return, and not deviate from the plan. The rescued man had not notified his family of his location, so no one would have known where to look for him.

Authorities added that during the man’s rescue, they were also able to locate and rescue another motorist who was stranded in the snow for “several days”.
