Two Italian Air Force planes collided on Tuesday during a training flight in Guidonia, near Rome, and neither pilot survived the crash. The organization announced this on its social networks:

“Air crash: Today near Guidonia (RM) 2 U-208 from 60° Stormo crashed during a training mission. For reasons still unknown, they allegedly collided and fell. Unfortunately the 2 pilots died on impact. No other people would be involved.”

Both pilots were on a training mission aboard two U-208 (single-propeller) aircraft, according to an Air Force note.

The two pilots killed in the Guidonia plane crash are Lieutenant Colonel Daniele Cipriano, 48, and Commander Marco Meneghello, 45, were part of the team and were on a pre-planned training mission with two other U-208s.

The wreckage of the two planes crashed, one in the countryside in Rome, near a petrol station, and the other near houses on Via de la Margherite.

Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also spoke about the accident: “The death of the two Air Force pilots who disappeared in the Guidonia plane crash fills us with pain. On behalf of the government, I express my deepest condolences and solidarity to the families, colleagues and the Air Force. Our prayers are with them.”

“The defense and Min. Guido Crosetto express their deepest condolences and embrace the relatives of T.Col. Giuseppe Cipriano and Major Marco Meneghello #AeronauticaMilitare who tragically disappeared in the plane crash in #Guidonia,” said another Defense Ministry tweet.
