Samsung to sell record number of foldable smartphones

FT: The market for foldable smartphones will double in 2023

Experts have predicted explosive growth in the foldable smartphone segment. This is reported by the Financial Times newspaper.

FT journalists referred to a Canalys report, according to which in 2022 there were 14.2 million units of folding smartphones put on the market. The segment leader was Samsung, which shipped more phones than all other manufacturers combined – about 12 million units.

Based on this information, experts said that in 2023 Samsung will sell a record number of smartphones with a folding display. According to the newspaper’s experts, the company can sell up to 15 million units. The authors also calculated that by the end of this year, the foldable smartphone market will double – respectively, from 14.2 to 30 million devices.

The material says that 2022 was the worst year for the smartphone market, but the foldable segment was almost the only one that showed growth. According to analysts, sales of gadgets should pick up by the end of the summer, when Samsung traditionally introduces new Z Fold and Z Flip series phones.

At the end of January, TrendForce analysts predicted that the foldable smartphone market will increase by 44 percent in 2023. According to experts, by the end of the year, manufacturers of foldable devices will put 18.5 million gadgets on the market.
