An angel to her family and friends was Gabby Petito. Her murder, at the hands of the man she loved, hurts. 18 months have passed and the questions are still in the air: why Brian Laundrie could kill the young influencer, lover of travel, of nature.

Gabby, a famous American travel vlogger, went on a journey never to return. On August 27, 2021, she went to Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming, United States with her boyfriend, whom she has known since high school.

Joseph and Nichole Petito missed her. He did not call or answer calls or messages. It was a long weekend for the 22-year-old’s parents.

Five days later, Brian reappeared. He arrived alone at his parents’ home in Florida. When the Petitos found out, they were filled with fear. The boy had “returned earlier than announced” and the couple were eager to hear from their daughter.

The silence persisted. Brian did not answer and he did not answer his mobile phone, Infobae reports. The Petitos tried to wait a few days, finally on September 11, 2021, with fear they chose to denounce. Police action was now necessary, Gabby had to show up.

The murder of influencer Gabby Petito

Gabby was born in Blue Point, New York, on March 19, 1999. She had four parents, she said. Joseph and Nicole divorced and got partners: Joseph to Tara and Nichole to Jim Schmidt. “Incredibly, everyone got along more than well and shared many moments together.”

In 2017, Gabby graduated from high school, where she met Brian, and studied pharmacy and nutrition.

After two years, the couple of young people formalized the relationship. Gabby left her job in North Carolina “to move with Brian to the home of his in-laws, Christopher (62) and Roberta Laundrie (55), in North Port, Florida.”

Brian proposed to me and I said yes!

With that news, he made his followers happy at the beginning of July 2020. Life smiled at him.

The friend was normal, loving and in response to Gabby’s announcement, he wrote on networks: “My biggest fear is that one day I will wake up and it was all a dream because that’s how I’ve felt every second since I That we meet Until death do us part and I wake up… I’m so glad the answer is yes, I love you baby.”

The young man is remembered as “a man who loves the outdoors, a loving boyfriend and an artist who loves pop culture icons. He also recognized himself as a fan of movies like Joaquin Phoenix’s The Joker, of violent video games like Hotline Miami.

Brian didn’t have a steady job yet… “he made money selling his artwork online” on a site called Bizarre Design

At what point did everything in the relationship change?

They both loved to travel and bought a white 2012 Ford Transit Connect van, which they converted into a motor home that they began calling “a garden on wheels.”

They planned to travel, tour the United States and they did. They began documenting their travel experiences as “of life” since they left New York on July 2 through a YouTube channel called Nomadic Statik, the Independent recalls.

He adds that the influencer girl was last seen on August 24, 2021 as she left a hotel in Salt Lake City, Utah. I went with Brian.

After the complaint about his disappearance was filed, a video published by the police of Moab, a small Utah town, was discovered that raised suspicions around Laundrie, El Universo published.

The footage showed Gabby Petito crying in a car after police intervened for a domestic dispute on August 12.

the tragic news

On September 15, Florida’s North Port Police reported that Brian Laundrie was an “interested party” in his girlfriend’s disappearance.

Less than 48 hours passed when it was learned that he had moved out of his parents’ home, leading to the FBI itself “removing Laundrie’s parents from their home and beginning to investigate the home as a crime scene”.

Authorities reported on the 19th of that month that they had found remains in the eastern part of Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, where the couple had been traveling on August 27.

At the same time, they tracked the Carlton Reservation in Sarasota County, Florida, because the suspect Brian is believed to have gone there.

That fateful August 27, 2021 saw another episode of intimate partner violence. The relationship was not going well.

That day Brian was very aggressive in a restaurant. A woman named Nina Celie Angelo posted on her Instagram account that she witnessed an explosive fight between Brian and Gabby that day at the Merry Piglet restaurant in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

He said Brian yelled at the waitress and Gabby was just crying and apologizing for her boyfriend’s behavior.”

Many warnings, many fears. Finally, life hit the Petitos hard: Gabby was confirmed dead. “She died of strangulation. According to the autopsy, the young woman remained dead for three to four weeks before her remains were found.”

And Brian…? Days later, it was learned that “between August 30 and September 1, he allegedly used Petito’s bank card to spend $1,000. Authorities believe he had been on the run for more than three weeks.”

suicide

On October 20, in a nature preserve in northern Florida, the explosive Brian was found dead. He committed suicide by shooting himself in the head. The FBI reported that before committing suicide, the young man confessed in writing to killing her.

“A review of the notebook revealed written statements from Mr. Laundrie accepting responsibility for Petito’s death”: FBI. Brian Laundrie, “had been ripped to pieces by local rodents and wild dogs after his death”, it was later learned.

Why did he kill Gabby Petito?

The eight-page manuscript was unveiled. He tried to justify the crime out of ‘mercy’. It is a message, in blue letters splashed with water, in which he states broadly:

“Gabby, I wish I was with you, I wish I was talking to you right now. I go through every moment we live excited by the future. But we have lost the future. I can not live without you. I wasted every day we spent together. Every holiday. (…) I love you more than anything. I can’t stand seeing our pictures, or remembering old times because I can’t move on. (…) When I close my eyes, I see myself lying on the roof of the van, falling asleep watching a meteor (…) I will always love you. (…) I’m sorry for everyone affected by this.

Gabby was the love of my life. (….) I’m sorry for his family, because he loved them. (…) I’m sorry for my family. For them it is a shock and also a huge loss. They loved her very much, if not more than they loved me. (…) What happened is an unexpected tragedy. Trying to run to our car, trying to cross overflowing streams before it got too dark and cold to see.

I heard a splash and a scream. I could barely see her, I couldn’t find her, I called her name. I noticed that she was breathing heavily, whispering my name, frozen with cold (…) she was soaked. I dragged it as far downriver as possible to the car, staggering, exhausted, in shock (…) realizing I couldn’t carry it safely. I built a fire and moved it as close as I could. She was so thin and she had been so cold before.

She had a small bruise on her forehead that was getting bigger. Her feet ached, her wrists ached, she was frozen and shaking violently.

I didn’t realize then that I should have lit the fire sooner (…) As I wore it, I moaned in pain. Lying next to her, I saw her gasp, begging to stop suffering. I didn’t want him to fall asleep in case he got a concussion. I would wake her up and start the cycle of pain all over again (he’s still trying to describe the accident in the wild that would have left her badly injured) I don’t know how bad Gabby’s injuries were, just that she was in extreme pain.

I took his life. I thought it was something merciful, which she wanted, but now I see all the mistakes I made. I panicked. I was shocked. But from the moment I decided to take her pain away, I knew I couldn’t go on without her. I ran home to spend what time I had left with my family (…) ending my life was not for fear of punishment, but rather because I can’t live another day without her (…)

Sorry for the losses. Please don’t make my family’s life more difficult, they have lost a son and a daughter, the most beautiful woman in the world. Gabriel, I’m sorry.”

And he ended by saying, “I am committing suicide in this stream hoping that the animals will tear me to pieces. This can make someone in your family happy. Please collect all my things. Gabby hated people who left trash.”
