A dramatic case of infanticide was recorded in a maternity hospital in central Venezuela. A woman arrived at the health facility with contractions, which, to everyone’s surprise, eventually caused the death of the baby she had in her womb.
The act of violence was announced on Friday, March 3, 2023 by that country’s national chief of scientific police, Commissioner Douglas Rico, through his social networks.
The infanticide took place at the Maternal and Child Hospital of the East, named Doctor Joel Valencia Parpacén, located in Petare Parish, Miranda State in Venezuela.
It is not known whether the woman, who was arrested and ordered by the Public Prosecution Service (Public Prosecution Service), has psychiatric or psychological problems.

Woman went into labor and caused her baby’s death
The police chief indicated that 22-year-old Yailín Espinoza Lara was “in labor” and was transferred to the aforementioned hospital in Petare, considered the largest neighborhood in Latin America.
The doctors examined her and told her that a natural delivery was imminent. When she was informed that she would give birth naturally, the woman became aggressive. She demanded to have a C-section performed on her and to put pressure on the staff assisting her, “the lines came loose”.
He then chose to “take a (wooden) plank”, hitting his bulging stomach several times and throwing himself to the ground, falling on his face.
Faced with an impressive situation, the doctors performed an emergency caesarean section. The baby, who was born alive according to the police, did not resist the injuries inflicted and died.
In Venezuela, sentences for infanticide are over 20 years old. At the end of November 2022, the country’s public prosecutor announced that a woman had been sentenced to 29 years in prison for causing the death of her newborn baby.
The painful case happened at the home of the 29-year-old woman, in the state of Trujillo, located in the Venezuelan Andes zone.
Social media reactions to infanticide
Irene Herrera opined on Friday, March 3, after what had happened in the maternity hospital, that “this woman most likely suffers from a psychiatric illness, nobody knows the path that led her to that situation.”
Érika Colina has the same comment: “I’m not judging her, what she did is wrong, but her psychological state needs to be investigated and diagnosed.”
Suha Mau recalled: Gentlemen, having a baby means having responsibility and financial resources; But; have no. The children are not to blame.
“All wrong… What’s a wooden board doing in a waiting room? And the health personnel on duty couldn’t get her under control before she caused so much damage? This girl (woman) deserves the maximum sentence,” Betsy Montilva added.
