Urgent psychological help for her daughter, a 10-year-old girl, asks for a mother from an island in the Canary archipelago. The minor is a victim of sexual abuse and the shadow of suicide haunts her parents: she has tried to take her life three times.

The woman and her partner declare in Lanzarote that they do not have the financial means to pay for their treatment and “they assure that social security has canceled their appointment with the psychologist”.

They add that they have contacted a child psychologist, privately, who says she can help, but they need money for what comes after the consultations.

The girl is in a process of depression, which upsets the parents. To SER Lazarote, the mother exposed the signs she sensed in her daughter. He’s come to say that “the best thing to do is to leave,” he explains.

“I didn’t feel like going to school this week. She just wants to be in her room, sleepShe doesn’t want anything, she wants to be alone in her room, she doesn’t want to share with anyone, she’s been like this for days. Now he’s sitting here at home, he doesn’t want to go out, he doesn’t want to do anything,” he described with concern on Monday, February 27, 2023.

There are days when I have to get it out ‘come on, let’s go’, but not now.

What the girl suffers was known to the family through one of her teachers. The little girl confided in the teacher about the drama she is going through at her age.

That friend of the mother is Eva Martínez, who told how this nightmare started for the girl and her parents. In addition, he opened a GoFundMe account to raise money to help María (the baby’s fictional name).

“The social security psychologist appointment was canceled without notice and they have not scheduled another one,” Martínez adds to the aforementioned website.

“The girl was assaulted between May 2022 and November 30 of the same year by the brother of her mother’s sister-in-law, a 37-year-old man,” said El Correo Gallego.

We have contacted several associations and the Cabildo and they only serve people over the age of 14.

The case has been reported and is already in the trial phase. Previously, the rape suspect had already received a restraining order.

“The legal proceedings have already started (…) we have had the first trial where the boy denies everything that happened and we are waiting for the next trial to be able to speed up the whole process for my daughter,” explains the mother , whose identity is being held in reserve.

He says you have to “wait because the girl is asked to make a statement in court, she has already gone to make a statement and we are waiting to see what happens. They have not told us anything at this point, that this is a trial. The judge imposed a restraining order on that boy against the girl,” he confirms.

the shadow of suicide

The mother says she watches over her daughter 24 hours a day. Two weeks ago he tried to take his own life. According to his mother, there are three attempts.

The fact that the girl is going to bathe fills her with fears.

“She locks herself in her bathroom and it’s like warnings she sends to me, that she locks herself in her bathroom and wants nothing. I found her last time with a cord around her neck, the other time I found her with her shoelace a bunch of knots in the bathtub. She told me she wasn’t doing anything, that she was washing her shoes, I told her not to do anything and she told me to calm down.”

“I stay with her in this situation for 24 hours,” she says.

The family does not believe what the minor says

Sexual abuse in Spain, as reported by El País, in September 2022, has increased by 34.6% in one year.

What these parents experience is summarized by the woman as follows: “It was an accident of a relative.”

The girl’s mother assures that they have had no support from their relatives. The reason? They do not believe in what the minor revealed to the teacher.

The relatives think he is making it up, confirms the mother’s girlfriend.

“Both the mother and the sister do not accept the mistake this boy made. I just have them as neighbors here, so that’s why they put up the restraining order, on this boy, because the sister lives next door,” he says.

This troubled woman knows that the little girl knows what others think and say.

“She is ashamed (…) she says it is better to go.”
