Colombian police have announced the arrest of an alleged extortionist from the Huila department, alias El Gordo.

After an eight-month follow-up, it was possible to capture him on his return to Colombia from Ecuador. According to information from Colombian media, José Manuel G. was part of the Los Intocables criminal group that was dismantled in June 2020.

They posed as alleged FARC and EPL guerrillas to extort farmers and peasants in the southern zone of Huila.

It is suspected that José Manuel was responsible for, among other things, obtaining the weapons, uniforms, selecting the victims and committing thefts in various municipalities.

To avoid capture, the alleged blackmailer fled to Ecuador and sought refuge for several months until it was determined that he returned to Colombia in December 2022 to hide in Pitalito, a Huila commune.

It was learned, thanks to an informant, that he had traveled to Bogotá to convince his partner to return with him. It was precisely on the bus to return to Pitalito that he was captured, he was in the company of his wife and children.

An insurance measure has been issued for the crimes of conspiracy to commit a felony and extortion.
