Peru’s National Police notified Puno’s Decentralized Directorate of Culture (DDC) to verify that it was not a robbery.

Lawyers and relatives of the detainee arrived at the scene, as the mummy apparently hails from Patambuco district, Sandi province, according to the CNN report.

However, Julio César, the alleged owner, assured that the object has been in his family for more than 30 years. He added that he should have kept it when his plan to donate it to the Museum of Puno fell through.

According to local media, the family wanted to make a profit and asked for an amount of money for the exchange. However, his claims were unsuccessful.

Deliveryman in Peru says the mummy is “my spiritual friend”

The delivery man told authorities that the corpse remains in his room and that he is caring for her as his “spiritual girlfriend.”

“I take care of her and maintain her. It’s like, excuse the word, my spiritual friend,” he said in a video that quickly went viral on social media. He also revealed that he called her Juanita.

After the event, Puno’s Decentralized Directorate of Culture (DDC) reported that it was unable to confiscate it.

“If the mummy is damaged, it is the responsibility of whoever is transporting it, including the prosecution or the police, but I am not going to contradict the prosecutor,” said one of the DDC representatives.

For this reason, the authorities present have decided to transfer the case to the prosecutor’s office and this entity is already conducting an investigation. In the end, Juanita turned out to be Juan, a man in his 45s who died between 600 and 900 years ago.
