Your digital ID card will no longer be useless. The mObywatel application is like a traditional document

On February 28, the government adopted a bill on the mObywatel application. It assumes that the digital ID card available in this application will work like a traditional document. This means that, for example, it will be possible to show a smartphone at the office. Today it is impossible in many situations.

Anyone who uses the mObywatel application knows that today it does not replace an ID card to the extent that could be considered useful. We will not identify ourselves with a smartphone, for example, at the office or at the airport. We will confirm your identity with a digital ID only in certain situations – e.g. in a hotel or post office.

Anyone who went with a digital document in a smartphone to, for example, register a car, get a passport for a child, has experienced disappointment so far, because for an official, the ID card in the smartphone was not a personal document. The problem is that it is difficult to check every time whether our digital ID can be used on a given occasion, so in practice you have to have a plastic document with you at the office anyway, so that you don’t leave empty-handed after standing in line.

However, this is about to change. The government has passed a bill that equates “in-app” evidence with a traditional piece of plastic.

mObywatel as a traditional document. You will use your smartphone to identify yourself and issue a power of attorney

Increasing the rights of the mObywatel application will entail the introduction of new functionalities. The smartphone will be able to be used, for example, to issue a power of attorney, which we will be able to use in the office. And that’s without filling in the forms.

– We want mObywatel to become that mythical “one window” during the Civic Platform. Not only have we done it, but we are skipping this stage, because in the window of your own phone or computer you will be able to do much more than they were able to integrate in the offices they manage – said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, announcing the introduction of the change.

The head of the government also assured that the mObywatel application will continue to be developed. “More and more services and documents will be available within the app,” he said.

Morawiecki announced that after the changes to the mObywatel application, “in the window of your own phone, your own computer, you will be able to do much more than they were able to integrate in the offices they manage.” – In fact, this is the implementation of our postulate of freedom. The postulate of voluntariness and freedom. Let everyone do their business the way they want and let them have as much free time as possible, he added.
