The journalists referred to a recent report by Nintendo, from which it follows that by the beginning of 2023, the Japanese company had sold 122.55 million units of Switch consoles. Based on these data, the authors have adjusted the top most popular game consoles in history.

Thanks to high sales, the current Nintendo Switch console was in third place in the ranking. In second position is the Nintendo DS, which sold 154 million units. The PlayStation 2, which entered the market in 2000, remained in the first position. In total, Sony managed to sell 155 million PS2 units.

According to experts, the Nintendo Switch remains the only console in the top 3 that is still on sale. The device was released in 2017, now it is not known when the Japanese company will release a new generation of set-top boxes. “Switch sales have slowed noticeably lately, and if this trend continues, it could push Nintendo to create a successor,” the journalists concluded.

In early February, Sony announced that it had reached a record high in sales of the PlayStation 5. According to the corporation, 7.1 million consoles were sold in the quarter, which is the highest figure in the history of the console.
