It is dangerous to use a smartphone with an old or swollen battery. Sergey Kuzmenko, a senior specialist in testing digital products of Roskachestvo, said this in an interview with Sputnik radio.
Kuzmenko warned users against using smartphones, the battery of which is significantly worn out. The specialist called the risk of fire and even explosion as the main danger of such devices. “It is impossible to predict how the swollen battery will behave. It may simply fail, or it may explode, ”said Sergei Kuzmenko.
The expert explained that a phone’s battery invariably loses capacity over time. However, not all users can find out that their phone’s battery is unsafe. A sign of battery degradation is when the smartphone runs out quickly.
“Batteries in phones last for different periods of time, but they all lose 20 percent of their capacity after the first 300 charge-discharge cycles,” Kuzmenko said. According to him, if you charge the phone daily, the battery will lose 20 percent of its capacity in less than a year.
Earlier, Ruslan Kosarim, Deputy CTO for Business Development at Angara Group, named the main signs of a smartphone being hacked. One of the most likely signs of a tampering could be an increase in battery drain rate.
