Sony sold a record 7.1 million PS5s in the fourth quarter of 2022
Sony spoke about reaching a record high in the sale of next-generation game consoles. It is reported by the publication Pocket-lint.
Reporting on earnings for the fourth quarter of 2022, the corporation noted that it was the best three months in terms of PS5 shipments. During this period, the company sold 7.1 million consoles – the highest figure in the history of the console. The Japanese firm shipped 3.9 million units to the market in the previous quarter.
In total, since the launch of the PlayStation 5 for sale in November 2020, the company has managed to sell 32.1 million consoles. At the same time, the PlayStation 4 sold a large circulation – about 38 million units over the same period of time.
According to media journalists, the growth in sales is due to the absence of a shortage on the console, which Sony announced at the end of January. “To all our fans, thank you for your patience as we were able to meet the unprecedented demand for the PS5 console amidst global challenges,” the company said.
Earlier, Bloomberg sources reported that the demand for the PlayStation VR 2 headset was low. The company denied the information, saying that they see interest in a virtual reality helmet among their consumers.
