Poland urged to boycott the 2024 Olympics if Russian athletes are admitted
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Pavel Yablonsky spoke about the possible admission of Russian athletes to the 2024 Olympic Games. His words are transmitted by RMF.
“My personal opinion: if athletes from Belarus and Russia are allowed to the 2024 Games, then we should simply boycott the competition. You can’t participate in such Games, ”Yablonsky said. He called this necessary pressure on the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and urged sports organizations to take this decision.
Earlier, the sports ministers of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia called on the IOC to prevent Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in the 2024 Games in Paris. In their opinion, sport is part of the political picture of the world, so even greater sanctions should be imposed on Russian sport.
On January 25, the IOC announced that it was considering the possibility of individual admission to competitions of Russian and Belarusian athletes. It was noted that only athletes who did not support the conduct of a special operation in Ukraine and did not violate anti-doping rules will be able to get permission to compete in international tournaments.
The Olympic Games are to be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
