VGC: Microsoft will raise the price of Xbox consoles in Japan from February 17

Microsoft announced an increase in the cost of Xbox consoles – following the Sony PlayStation. This is reported by the publication VGC.

The corporation said in a statement that the firm’s executives made a “difficult decision.” “We regularly evaluate the impact of local pricing to maintain reasonable consistency across regions,” Microsoft said. Prices for set-top boxes will be changed from February 17th.

The price of the flagship Xbox Series X in Japan will rise from 54,978 to 59,978 yen – from about 30 thousand to 32 thousand rubles. The Series S model will rise in price from 32,278 to 37,978 yen – from about 17,000 to 21,000 rubles.

According to journalists of the publication, in the near future the American corporation may adjust the prices for set-top boxes in other regions. So, in October, the head of the gaming division of Microsoft, Phil Spencer, spoke about this. “I think that at some point we will have to raise prices on some products,” Spencer noted, specifying that the company cannot keep prices low forever.

The authors of VGC recalled that Sony raised the recommended retail price for the PS5 console in August. The prefix has risen in price all over the world, except for the USA. So, in Europe, the disk and digital versions of the set-top box have risen in price by 50 euros – up to 550 and 450 euros, respectively.

In December, it became known that in 2023 Microsoft will raise the price of games for Xbox consoles. The minimum cost of titles will reach 69.99 dollars.
