Scammers constantly come up with new ways to obtain sensitive data of Poles and, as a consequence, clear the account of people who are unaware of anything. This time, they encourage you to install an application that is supposedly mandatory for “security” reasons.
Do not install “security apps”. This is an attempt at fraud
According to CERT Polska, fraudsters have launched a new phishing campaign aimed at Santander bank customers. Criminals send random Internet users e-mails with information about the alleged restriction of access to a bank account, hoping that they will reach customers who actually have an account at this bank and will believe the information in the message.
The scammers then try to convince that the block was imposed due to the lack of a new “security application” that the bank’s programmers were supposed to create. The solution that potential victims urge is, of course, to install the apk.
The message was probably translated into Polish using an online translator, which is fortunately quite unreliable. In addition, the fake website of the scammers is on a domain that does not resemble the bank’s domain at all. Thus, it is easy to recognize that we are dealing with a scam.
The “security application” in question is actually the dangerous Hydra banking Trojan. Its task is to steal bank login details and intercept SMS messages containing codes confirming banking transactions. Trojan installation, unfortunately, may end up wiping your bank account.
