Deputy Gorelkin: VK and Yandex will work on the creation of a national mobile OS
The leaders of the IT industry in Russia – VK, Yandex, Sberbank and Rostelecom – will work on the creation of a national mobile operating system (OS). This was stated by Deputy Chairman of the Duma Committee on Information Policy Anton Gorelkin in his Telegram channel.
According to Gorelkin, the conglomerate of developers plans to repeat the success of Huawei, which was under US sanctions and “was forced to create its own operating system that is fully compatible with Android” – with its own services and app store.
It is noted that VK already has such a store. Yandex has a mapping service and interface developments, and Sberbank owns the most popular fintech service in the country, the deputy chairman emphasized. The parliamentarian noted that this will become one of the most important IT projects on a national scale.
Earlier it was reported that the Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation excluded expenses for the development of the Aurora OS from the digitalization program. It was assumed that the cost of measures to support the creation of an environment for the OS (development of mobile services, adaptation of partner devices) would amount to 22 billion rubles.
