On Monday, there was a DDOS attack on the state-owned e-order service. The information was confirmed by the website itself, before it was practically cut off from outside access.
State website attacked
“We would like to inform you that since 09:07 we have had an attack (DDOS) from external servers on the infrastructure of the e-Order Platform and the necessary actions are currently being taken to restore the correct operation of the Platform. We will inform you about the restoration of operation in a separate message. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience” – we read on the pages of the service.
As the spokesman for the Public Procurement Office told the RMF FM station, the services have already been informed about the case.
The aim of the e-Orders website is to shorten the procurement process and increase access to information for contractors on national and EU procedures.
What is a DDOS attack?
A DDOS attack is a type of cyberattack in which a malicious entity – e.g. cybercriminals, foreign state intelligence, business competitors – tries to overload the system with requests, making it inaccessible to users.
In practice, a DDOS attack occurs by flooding the server with requests from many computers or by using a botnet – a network of infected devices that can be remotely controlled. DDOS attacks can be very difficult to defend because they can come from anywhere in the world and their source can be difficult to trace.
A Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) attack leads to the display of an “access denied” message – the goal is to prevent the use of a website or service.
