On receiving a $40 million contract from the Pentagon for L3Harris Technologies. The company is to produce and adapt 14 systems especially for Ukraine, which will allow it to defend against constant Russian air attacks.
14 “Vampire” systems for Ukraine from the USA
“Vampire” kits are used to defend against air attacks, mainly against air raids by enemy combat drones. These are lightweight laser-guided missile systems adapted to be transported also by civilian vehicles. They show high precision and effectiveness when attacking small objects.
As part of the contract, L3Harris Technologies is not only to produce 14 such kits, but also to install them on vehicles that will be delivered by the US government. Kits with ammunition (Advanced Precision Kill Weapons System missiles) ready for use on the battlefield are to be delivered to Ukraine.
The first batch of four vehicles and missile systems is to be sent to our eastern neighbors in June this year. Another 10 units will reach Ukraine by the end of 2023 at the latest.
The company explains that the Pentagon’s order is part of a larger, $3 billion aid package for Ukraine. Field tests of the “Vampire” sets continued in 2021 and summer 2022, and in April 2022, the prototypes of the system were handed over to the US Department of Defense. As part of the same aid package, the following will also be provided, among others: NASAMS systems.
