An electric car from Xiaomi next year? The price will not be low

Xiaomi is associated on the Vistula River mainly with the production of cheap electronics, but in fact it is a technological giant and one of the largest smartphone manufacturers in the world. For a long time, however, the Chinese have been planning to enter the so far unexplored passenger car market.

Xiaomi has been reportedly working on the first electric vehicle for years, but officially unveiled the secret about it only in 2021. However, we do not have to wait long for the first results. The Chinese are apparently already at a fairly advanced stage of work and will show their first car model in about a year.

At least, based on the information of local Chinese media. The first Xiaomi model is to be an electric sedan and at the same time a strong competitor to the very popular Tesla Model 3. At least on the Chinese market. The car will be offered in two versions, codenamed Modena and Le Mans.

Of course, the stronger one (Le mans) looks definitely more interesting. It is to be based on a high-voltage 800V platform and a battery with the possibility of charging from zero to 80 percent. in just 15 minutes. Drive to the wheels will be provided by possibly three electric motors.

It should come as no surprise that Xiaomi wants to pack both versions with multiple sensors that will allow for at least partially autonomous driving. Some of them are to be provided by third parties (e.g. Nvidia), but the rest will be developed by Xiaomi on its own.

The car in its basic version is to be presented at the end of this year, and in the first quarter of next year it should reach the first customers. A more expensive version is likely to be launched in 2025.

Xiaomi assumes production at the level of approx. 300,000. pieces per year. Unfortunately, there are many indications that Xiaomi cars will not be cheap. The price of the cheaper version, called Modena for now, is to be between 168,000 and 194,000. zloty. The more expensive Le Mans variant is expected to cost as much as 226,000. zloty.
