‘Inisherin’s Banshee’ and Spielberg’s ‘The Fabelmans’ triumph at the Golden Globes

The films ‘The Fabelmans’, by Steven Spielberg, and ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’, by Martin McDonagh, met the forecasts and emerged as big winners at the 80th edition of the Golden Globes, the awards of the Association of the Hollywood Foreign Press.

Among the winners stood out ‘The Fabelmans’, Steven Spielberg’s autobiographical film that won the awards for best dramatic film and best director. One more award was won by ‘Inisherin’s Banshee’, Martin McDonagh’s film won three of the eight Golden Globes for which it was nominated: best musical or comedy film, best musical or comedy actor for Colin Farrell and best screenplay for McDonagh himself.

Also fulfilling the predictions was Cate Blanchett, winner of the award for best dramatic actress for ‘TÁR’, the drama set in the world of classical music written and directed by Todd Field.

Austin Butler won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama for his portrayal of ‘Elvis’, while Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan, for ‘Everything at Once, Everywhere’, won best actress in a comedy or musical and best supporting actor respectively. Angela Basset, for her portrayal of Queen Ramonda in Marvel Studios’ ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’, was awarded Best Supporting Actress.

In addition, ‘Argentina 1985’ won the award for best non-English language film. When collecting the award, the director dedicated the award to “all the people who have been fighting for democracy in Argentina since the dictatorship and continue to fight.”

Guillermo del Toro won the award for best animated film for his stop-motion version of the classic ‘Pinocchio’.

The Cecil B. Demile Award went to Eddie Murphy in recognition of his entire career.
