Oppo has released two new foldable smartphones. Everything is beautiful, but only one of them will go to Europe

Oppo started its adventure with folded smartphones only in December last year, when the Find N model appeared on the market. The smartphone folded along the long side (just like a book) and had a top specification, but unfortunately it never went outside of China.

Oppo Find N2 – second generation foldable smartphone

Now the Chinese manufacturer at the Inno Day 2022 event showed two new foldable smartphones. Oppo Find N2 is the successor to last year’s foldable, and Oppo Find N2 Flip is a completely new concept of a “vertical” folded smartphone (like a powder compact).

I had the opportunity to take a closer look at the first one and I must admit that it looks very encouraging. The smartphone is well made and fits perfectly in the hand. This is mainly due to the rather unusual dimensions of the Find N2 smartphone’s external screen. This display has a diagonal of only 5.54 inches and an aspect ratio of 17.7 x 9.

Such a small external screen actually makes the phone very comfortable to use with one hand. However, I quickly opened up the phone, running the internal display with a diagonal of 7.1 inches and a (nearly square) 8.4 x 9 aspect ratio.

Oppo boasts that it has made several modifications compared to its predecessor. The entire folding mechanism of the phone has been simplified – the number of elements used to build the hinge has been reduced from 136 to 100. In addition, the weight of the entire phone has decreased by 42 grams, and the kink along the center of the internal screen is 67 percent lighter. less visible. The manufacturer’s tests show that the hinge can withstand up to 400,000. folds and unfolds “without compromising quality”.

I must praise the manufacturer for actually managing to completely remove the gap between the two sides of the screen when the smartphone is folded. Thanks to this, the phone is a bit slimmer (although still quite thick – 14.6 mm) and we do not have to worry about particles that willingly settle inside the folded smartphone.

You can’t complain about the specification

The technical specification of the smartphone leaves no illusions that Oppo Find N2 is a top-shelf smartphone. The heart of the device is the Snapdragon 8+ Gen. 1 processor, supported by 12 or 16 GB of RAM and 256 or 512 GB of data space. There was also support for 5G.

In addition, we have a triple camera with a proprietary NPU processor for image processing – MariSilicon X. The main camera has a matrix with a resolution of 50 Mpix, and the other two are a 48-megapixel camera with a wide-angle lens and a 32-megapixel sensor with a 2x telephoto lens. The whole is powered by a 4520 mAh battery with support for 67W fast charging.

Unfortunately there is one “but”

Oppo priced the smartphone in China at 7999 yuan (PLN 5065) or 8999 yuan (PLN 5700) depending on the version. The prices are therefore – for a folded smartphone – quite attractive. The problem is that the new Oppo smartphone will be difficult to buy at all. The manufacturer admitted during the premiere that (for unknown reasons) he does not plan to sell the device in markets other than China. Certainly, the device will not go to Poland and Europe.

For us, the consolation prize is to be Oppo Find N2 Flip, which has two much smaller screens with diagonals of 6.8 and 3.26 inches. The smartphone is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ and has 8, 12 or 16 GB of RAM. Plus three cameras, 5G connectivity and a 4300 mAh battery.

In China, the smartphone will be definitely cheaper – it was priced at 5999, 6399 and 6999 yuan (3800, 4055 and 4435 PLN) depending on the version. For now, unfortunately, it is not known when the device will go to Poland, or at what price.
