The speed with which Apple designs its products always surprises its users, who are used to receiving updates with each new release. This is the case of its flagship product, the iPhone 15, which is scheduled to hit the market in 2023 and which incorporates changes to its physical model.

One of the features that the iPhone 15 will have, according to technology analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, is that it will get rid of the physical power and volume buttons, and that both will “adopt a solid-state button design”, similar to the design of the iPhone. iPhone 7/8/SE2 and 3 home button, to replace the physical/mechanical button layout.

My latest survey indicates that the volume button and power button of two high-end iPhone 15/2H23 new iPhone models may adopt a solid-state button design (similar to the home button design of iPhone 7/8/SE2 & 3) to replace the physical/mechanical button design.— 郭明錤 (Ming-Chi Kuo) (@mingchikuo) October 28, 2022
In a series of posts on Twitter, Kuo explains that there will be “haptic motors located on the inner left and right sides to provide force feedback” so that users feel like they are pressing physical buttons.
Due to this design change, “the number of haptic engines used in each iPhone will increase from the current one to three,” the analyst mentions. “As a result, existing Taptic Engine vendors Luxshare ICT (first vendor) and AAC Technologies (second vendor) will be major beneficiaries,” he adds.
According to Kuo, it is possible that Apple’s tactic will be replicated by Android devices. If the analyst’s predictions come true, we will soon see this new design on high-end Android phones, as well as the more expensive iPhone 15.
