Patently Apple: Apple has patented the transmission of voice and video via satellites
Apple will expand the number of services that iPhone users will be able to receive via satellite. This is reported by Patently Apple.
Media journalists noticed that on December 13, Apple received a patent for data transmission technology via satellites. The issuance of the patent document coincided with the launch of the Emergency SOS option outside the US, which allows you to contact emergency services via SMS when there is no cellular connection.
The description of the invention states that through satellites it will be possible to establish the transmission of not only text, but also voice data and video. It also describes the ability to establish an Internet connection via satellite.
According to the authors of the publication, Apple may have serious plans for the wider use of satellite communications – not only to connect iPhone users who are in an emergency. Journalists recalled that in November, Apple announced that it had invested $450 million in the development of satellite communications.
In September, the head of SpaceX, Elon Musk, admitted that his corporation was in talks with Apple regarding the launch of satellite communications on smartphones. “The iPhone team is obviously super smart,” Musk praised Tim Cook’s company.
