TechRadar: Epson to stop manufacturing laser printers in 2026
A major manufacturer of office equipment Epson has announced the cessation of production of laser printers. This is reported by TechRadar.
A message published on the company’s blog says that the corporation decided to take such a step for the sake of the environment. Epson estimates that inkjet printers, which the firm will focus on, consume much less electricity than laser printers.
According to the company, inkjet printers will help “limit the resources used during production and delivery.” The materials of the corporation say that inkjet printers consume 85 percent less energy than laser printers. Also, during the production of the latter, more carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere. Production of laser printers is scheduled to end in 2026.
TechRadar journalists noted that the cost of printing one page on inkjet printers is usually more expensive than on laser equipment. Also in 2021, Epson announced a 100 billion yen investment in sustainable innovation.
At the end of August, Epson printer users complained that the equipment stopped working after a certain period of use. According to experts, the printers turned out to have a “planned obsolescence” function.
