Apple’s flagship smartphone, slated for 2022, could get an older processor. This is reported by The Information.
Media sources said that the supplier of chips for Apple – the Taiwanese company TSMC – will not have time to produce the new generation processors for the iPhone 14. Insiders believe that the transition to processors built on a three-nanometer process technology will be delayed. The authors call this feature as a possible main drawback of the future flagship.
At the same time, TSMC must begin the transition to a new technical process earlier than competitors, but the chips will not be ready until the fall of 2022. According to the authors, Apple may prepare for the next flagship a processor based on the five-nanometer Apple A15 Bionic chip. Perhaps it will be called A15 Pro and A15 Max.
Most likely, the new chip will be more powerful than the previous one. However, the transition to 3nm processors appears to be postponed until 2023.
In September, Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman announced that Apple smartphones planned for 2022 will receive a complete redesign. The specialist did not disclose the details of the update, but said that the fact that the iPhone 13 is so slightly different from the iPhone 12 is connected with the future update.
