It was not known for a long time who was impersonating the mayor. Russian comedians Wowan and Lexus admitted it last week. Initially, their shares were not linked to the Russian government, but in an interview with the political daily ARD “Kontraste” they admitted that they represented a media group dependent on a state-owned company – a concern, a global tycoon in natural gas extraction.

This platform is the Russian equivalent of YouTube and belongs to Gazprom Media, i.e. the part of Gazprom that controls, among others the most important TV stations in Russia and is a tool of Russian propaganda. “It clearly means that they receive state money for what they do,” explained Janis Sarts, director of the expert center for strategic communications.
