And they managed to do it, although our volleyball players took a long time to develop.
How did we win the first set?
The first set … will become a legend. The last time the Chinese defeated us 14 years ago and the most pessimists might have thought in the first set that we might face another defeat. In the first set, China played very well in attack and in counterattack. They were only wrong on the site, thanks to which they kept us with a good result. Even when we were completely wrong.
At 20:14 for China, it was hard to believe that we would win this game. Then it was even 24:21, but Tomasz Fornal came in and made a show. The Pole showed three aces in a row, then the Poles scored two more points and we won this game unexpectedly. Even Jakub Bednaruk, sitting in the TVP studio, claimed that he sometimes did not understand volleyball because he did not know how we could win this set. He will surely become one of the legends of Polish volleyball.
In the second set, the Poles achieved a very high level and they probably won the game to 16. It is worth emphasizing that the decisive points were scored by Mateusz Bieniek, who entered the service field. In the third set we had more fights, but in the second half of the game the Poles showed a good level. The pride of this set was the action at 17:22. Firlej ran to defend the ball, caught it just before the end of the field and played back. On the other hand, Tomasz Fornal, who played a great match, used this as the best play and scored a point after a great attack from the center of the pitch. Ultimately, we won the third game to 18.
Poland is the leader of the League of Nations
The victory of the Poles means that they can calmly prepare for the weekend matches with the Netherlands and Slovenia. In the League of Nations table, Poland moved up to the first place. The Polish team has played ten matches and 25 points. Italians have the same number of points. The USA ranks third (22 points). Fourth France has 22 points and one game less has been played.
