American Todd Boehly takes over as new Chelsea president

American businessman Todd Boehly, who bought the Chelsea with a consortium of investors at the end of May, he was appointed this Wednesday as president and interim sporting director of the club, from which influential Russian manager Marina Granovskaia is leaving. The information was provided by the Blues through a communiqué.

All members of the consortium led by Boehly and the investment fund Clearlake Capital integrate the management of the team, sold by Russian millionaire Roman Abramovich after sanctions by the British government on account of the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.

Among them are Behdad Eghbali and Jose Feliciano, directors of Clearlake; Mark Walter, Boehly’s partner on the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team; Swiss tycoon Hansjörg Wyss and British millionaire Jonathan Goldstein.

One of the first tasks, and not the simplest, will be to replace Marina Granovskaia, who arrived with Abramovich in 2003. During the 19 years under the Russian’s control, during which Chelsea were champions of everything, she was a feared negotiator in the transfers, in which the team was very active.

And Chelsea, which for the time being only registered the departure of players, will have to go shopping in this window. Third place from last English Premier Leaguethe London club may also lose Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku, who did not shine this year and should return to Inter Milan.

Among the rumors about possible signings are French defender Jules Koundé, from sevillehis compatriot Ousmane Dembélé, forward barcelonaand the Englishman Raheem Sterling, who plays as a winger in Manchester City.
