Tretyak called it impossible to travel the Stanley Cup to Russia this year
President of the Russian Hockey Federation (FHR) Vladislav Tretyak reacted to the decision of the National Hockey League (NHL) to ban Russian players from bringing home the Stanley Cup. It is reported by “Sport-Express”.
“Negotiations between the FHR and the NHL about the travel of the Stanley Cup to Russia? It’s hard for me to say. This year, I think it’s impossible. If the NHL decided so, you can’t convince them, ”said Tretiak. He added that the NHL rarely changes its rules.
The NHL ban became known on June 16. The league added that in the future, players may be able to bring the trophy home. The head coach of the Russian national hockey team Alexei Zhamnov called the incident insanity.
In the Stanley Cup final this season, the Colorado Avalanche won, which includes Russian striker Valery Nichushkin. According to tradition, each hockey player of the team that won the trophy can bring it to their hometown for one day.
