Officially: Pogoñ Szczecin announced a new coach. “I can’t wait”

A few weeks ago, he informed that from next season he will no longer be the coach of Pogoń Szczecin. The German will almost certainly be involved. Jens Gustafsson will become the new coach of “Portowców”.

– I am proud that we managed to reach an agreement. After many talks, I am convinced that he is a great choice for our club and will continue to develop our team. We want to continue building a strong, developing Pogoń together. We have analyzed many matches of the coach’s teams and we know that it is also the kind of ball we all want and to which we are used to in Szczecin. Coach Jens was also focused on a long-term project, he has already worked in this way in Sweden and we want to take further steps with him in the development of our club – says Dariusz Adamczuk, the director of the sports division of Pogoń Szczecin.

The 43-year-old Swede is currently the coach of the local U-21 team. He took up this job recently, in January, but it was his next approach to working with this team. In 2015, his team won the European Championship. He also ran Swedish clubs: Halmstadts and Norrkoeping. Good results in the latter team resulted in getting a job in Hajduku Split. He only lasted there until the 14th round.

– I am very excited to be joining Pogoń Szczecin. I can’t wait to meet the team and start our day-to-day cooperation that will result in the team’s success. I know that the construction of a beautiful stadium in Szczecin is coming to an end and I want the facility to be filled to the last available space for our matches. I plan to watch the team live from the stands also during their last home game this season – says Jens Gustafsson.

Great Runjaic Adventure

Jens Gustafsson will replace Kosta Runjaic in Pogoń, who has been running Pogoń since November 6, 2017. During this time, he led the team in 167 matches, so his counter will eventually stop at 169. In 2021 he led the club to the first medal in the Polish championship in 20 years. This season, the national championship fought for a long time, but the key was the 1: 2 defeat at home against Raków Częstochowa. In the last round, Pogoń tied with Wrocaw and her chances of winning the league are only mathematical.
