Azuay Sports Federation: The deadline they give us to place the athletic ring is a warning that seems more like a threat | Other Sports | Sports

Edwin Loyola, president of the Sports Federation of Azuay (FDA), challenged the 60-day period that Panam Sports gave him to complete the remodeling work on the Jefferson Pérez track in Cuenca, and complained about the procedure and unfulfilled promises by the Ecuadorian Olympic Committee, in the presidency of Augusto Morán, and that despite these inconveniences they will comply with the time set for the work to be completed.

“We have all the support since this started (donation of the track). We have claimed because always at the beginning we were offered a track that was going to be endorsed by the World Athletics. Then they told us that money was missing for the athletic ring, we completed that. They have put a series of obstacles for us to install the track and we have the supports on the opponents. They left us alone when former Sports Secretary Andrea Sotomayor intervened; no one supported us when that happened, the pandemic came and we waited almost two years for the athletic ring to arrive, we had to complete money and now we need more to install the track crescent, which was never included in the donation ”.

“We will always find solutions, but not with threats, not in that way and more like news (about the deadline), what the COE sends about the Panam Sports warning seemed like a pamphlet,” said the manager in dialogue with THE UNIVERSE.

The parent institution of amateur sports in Azuay also publicly expressed its discomfort with the deadline: “With much surprise and indignation we received this warning (which sounds like a threat) that the Mondo brand gives us two months to place the athletic ring in the track Jefferson Pérez, from Miraflores”, refers to the document that in the final part signs the FDA directory.

“After all the work that has been carried out and executed for the placement of the track, this argument of ‘if we do not reverse the donation’ leaves the spirit of ‘Olympism’ without foundation, which the Ecuadorian Olympic Committee itself professes as one of the values “, keep going

He adds: “There have been several factors for the delay: the illegal intervention of a year by the FDA, in addition to the payment of values that were not stipulated to complete the athletic ring that arrived as a donation (we will announce the items later). They are two of the causes for this mishap to have happened over time.”

The bulletin states: “Remember that the track physically arrived in our city only this year, after insisting for two years on what had been offered. Yes, almost two years have passed since the agreement was signed to date, the FDA has worked individually to streamline all the procedures so that the work is finished.”

“Thanks to the help of the municipal corporation we have solved expenses that were not contemplated; however, we are still in the process of obtaining resources”, he explains.

Regarding the performance of the Ecuadorian Athletics Federation (FEA), he indicates: “It is also striking that the FEA, an entity that will be the most benefited from the implementation of this athletic track, has not moved a single finger to streamline economic resources.”

Regarding the time to finish the work, they say that they will still comply: “We are sure that we will meet the deadline, but we will do so convinced that the work for the benefit of the athlete is the most important thing and that no one can intimidate our work.”

“We know and we have the support of the Ministry of Sport and private entities to whom we turn to meet this objective,” he refers in the final part. (D)
