Arteta agrees renewal with Arsenal until 2025

Arsenal on Friday announced the renewal of their manager Mikel Arteta’s contract. The club’s new bond with the Spaniard will run until 2025.

“I am excited, grateful and very, very happy today. We want to take the club to the next level and compete with the top teams. For that we have to play in the Champions League,” declared the captain.

“We have to be able to evolve the team, improve our players, improve all departments and generate even more connection with our fans. Improve the atmosphere in our stadium, be able to recruit the best, the best talent and the best people for this club to carry out a project at a high level,” he added.

In addition to Arteta, the English have extended Jonas Eidevall’s contract, who led Arsenal’s women’s team this season. The renewal is valid until 2024.

“It’s great. It allows me to continue working for a club I love so much and to be around people I really like, and to be able to achieve things together. I’m really looking forward to it,” said the Swede.

As a player, Arteta joined the Gunners in 2011 and remained until 2016, being considered an idol of the club. After retiring, he became Manchester City’s assistant, alongside Pep Guardiola, and took charge of the London team in 2019.

“I think the timing is perfect. I really believe the message will be a big boost for everyone. To the fans, the club, the players and Mikel himself. It’s important to show everyone where we want to go as a club,” said Brazilian Edu Gaspar, current Arsenal technical director and former Corinthians player.

This season, Arsenal are fourth in the Premier League and fighting for a spot in the next edition of the Champions League. The team’s next commitment is against Leeds United, this Sunday, at 10 am (GMT).
