Seven days to the completion of the South American Youth Games Rosario 2022, the Ecuadorian delegation participated together with the sports authorities in the flag ceremony.

At the event, which took place this Monday, were Sebastian PalaciosMinister of Sport; Carlos Moran, zonal coordinator 8 of that State portfolio; Jorge Delgadopresident of the Ecuadorian Olympic Committee (COE), and presidents of the different Ecuadorians by sport.

Nicholas Garciafrom Azuay, was the standard-bearer for his gold medal in the 10-kilometer track elimination, silver in the combined 10-kilometer track test and bronze for the points in the 10-kilometer route of the World Speed ​​Skating Championships held in Ibagué (Colombia).

There are 149 athletes who will participate in the competition that will take place from April 28 to May 8 under the technical control of the South American Sports Organization (Odesur).

“We are sure that his talent will make Ecuador shine at the top of these Games. Know that you have our support, both from the Ministry of Sport, the national government and the COE. As a government we are investing $600,000 for the participation of Ecuador in these Games”, said Palacios.

The budget includes air tickets for athletes, coaches, team leaders and staff; transportation for staff and athletes; bonuses for athletes; travel insurance; lodging, hospital medical services, among others.

For his part, Delgado in his speech said: “I want to thank the athletes for the sweat it has cost them to become selected, because getting to wear the tricolor is not easy. No one gives it to you, you have to earn it and you have more than earned it. Forever there are boys who have not managed to reach the national team, but they should not be discouragedA second chance always comes.

The president of the COE narrated an experience. “I am going to tell you an anecdote: in 1968 it was the Mexico OlympicsI qualified, but I was 14 years old, when the time came they told me that the Olympic Games are not for children, so I did not participate. I might have been discouragedbut no, that was the motivation for four years later not only to reach the Games, but to give the first Olympic final for Ecuador (Munich 1972), in the same way you, young people, have to fight for your dreams”.
