The NBA fined American Kyrie Irving, shooting guard for the Brooklyn Nets, $50,000 on Tuesday for dedicating “obscene gestures” and insulting the Boston Celtics fans who rebuked him last Sunday during the first game of this playoff series. ‘.

Irving was fined for “making obscene gestures on the court and using profane language towards the spectator stands” at Boston’s TD Garden, according to the statement provided by the NBA.

The American, a former Celtics player, received loud whistles and insults every time he received the ball from his former fans, in a game won 115-114 by Boston thanks to a basket on the buzzer by Jayson Tatum.

Irving scored 39 points and, after hitting a 3-pointer, turned to the stands and gave a “comb” to the fans.

“I’m used to these things and to feel the fans close. It’s nothing new what happens when I play in this stadium. But the same energy that they send towards me, I’m going to send towards them”, Irving affirmed at the end of the game in a press conference.

“It’s not all the fans and I don’t want to attack all the Boston fans. When people start yelling insults at you and all that, it’s something you get as a competitive player. We are expected to be calm, humble, but this is the ‘playoffs’, it is what it is, ”added Irving, who explained several insults that he heard from the stands.

The second game between the Celtics and the Nets will be played this Wednesday, again at the TD Garden in Boston. (D)
