The Ecuadorian Jorge Montenegro assumed this Friday the leadership of the Vuelta a Guatemala, five-stage test that will close on Sunday in Tecpán (Guatemala).
The corridor of the continental team Banco Guayaquil-Ecuador placed fifth in the stage between Santa Lucía and Quetzaltenango, with 133 kilometers travel. The winner was the Mexican Efrén Santos (Canel’s Pro Cycling) with 3 hours 53 minutes 48 seconds; however, the carchense’s best time put him at the top of the general classification.
Santos crossed the finish line in front of the Colombian Robinson Chalapudcompanion of Montenegro, and Christian Cubides (Hino-One), who entered in second and third place, respectively.

The Ecuadorian leads the test with an accumulated time of 10 hours 14 minutes 20 seconds, followed at 19 seconds by Heiner Parra and 20 seconds by Eduardo Corte, Canel’s runners.
Between the Ecuadorian team cyclists, Haro and Chalapud they are part of the top 10 of the general, in sixth and eighth place, 5 minutes 44 seconds and 6 minutes 13 seconds from Montenegro, respectively.
Another Ecuadorian who stands out in the test is Lenin Montenegrosecond best placed in the sub-23 category.
The fourth stage will run this Saturday with a stretch of 135.5 kilometers. The start will be in San Francisco El Alto and will end in the Piedra María Tecún forest, Totonicapán. (D)
