Coach José Mourinho wants to reinforce Roma’s current squad for the next period. According to the Italian site TuttoMercatoWeb, the Portuguese wants to sign midfielder Nemanja Matic, who announced this week that he will leave Manchester United.
Currently 33 years old, Matic has been with United since 2017. However, earlier this week, the Serbian used social media to communicate that he will not continue at the club.
“After a lot of thinking, I have decided that this will be my last season with Manchester United. I informed the board, the coach and the players of my decision. Now I will give everything until the end of the season to help my teammates finish as strong as possible,” Matic wrote.
Matic’s relationship with the Red Devils will end at the end of this season, next July. For Manchester United, there are 184 games played, four goals and nine assists so far.
It is worth remembering that Mourinho is an old admirer of Matic’s football. It was the Portuguese who asked to hire the midfielder for United in 2017. Before that, in 2014, the coach had already removed the Serbian from Benfica to take him to Chelsea.
