The Peruvian national team will play “like two finals” the games on March 24 and 29 against Uruguay and Paraguay, respectively, for the Qatar World Cup Qualifiersguaranteed defender Miguel Araujo.
The team led by Argentine coach Ricardo Gareca will face Uruguay on Thursday, at the National Stadium in Montevideo, and five days later they will receive Paraguay, at the National Stadium in Lima, to end their participation in the tournament.
“The feeling is of anxiety because there will be two finals, as were all the games in these Qualifiers”, said defender Araujo to the radio. Ovation.
With 21 points, the Peruvian team occupies the fifth position in the classification, which gives access to a playoff against an Asian team for a place in the 2022 World Cup.
The Peruvians’ next opponent, Uruguay, is in fourth place, which guarantees direct access to the World Cup, with 22 points, just one advantage over Peru.
If the Peruvians win and Chile do not defeat Brazil on Thursday, the celestial team will qualify directly for the World Cup. It would be a great achievement, after a series of bad results by the Uruguayans that led to the resignation of veteran coach Oscar Tabárez last November after fifteen years in charge of the national team, and the entry of Diego Alonso in his place.
But on the Peruvian side, there is also optimism. “We have already made history in other countries where we had not won, we won and we hope that this time will not be the exception”, added Miguel Araujo.
