This Monday, Uefa decided to change the regulation of the competitions it organizes (Champions League, Europa League and Conference League). The entity allowed clubs to register up to two new players from contracts suspended with Ukrainian and Russian teams, due to the geopolitical conflict.
Clubs will have until April 1 to register athletes. Thus, the players in question will be able to play in teams from other countries in the rest of European competitions, until the end of the current season, on June 30th.
Temporary rules addressing the exceptional situation deriving from the war in Ukraine will allow clubs to register a maximum of two new eligible players for the remaining matches in current UEFA club competitions.

“As a result of the uncertainty surrounding the escalation of the military conflict in Ukraine, which has caused a massive and distressing humanitarian crisis, the FIFA Council Bureau decided on 7 and 16 March 2022, in coordination and consultation with UEFA and other parties. interested parties, amend the FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfers of Players (RSTP) to provide legal certainty and clarity on various matters and to address the consequences of the crisis on players.”
“In this regard, the new Temporary Annex 7 to the FIFA RSTP entitled ‘Temporary Rules for the exceptional situation arising from the war in Ukraine’ has been introduced, which includes provisions relating to the suspension of contracts between players/coaches and clubs, which are affiliated with the Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) and the Football Union of Russia (FUR). Most notably, the new provisions, among others, allow the players in question to play for another club until 30 June 2022.”
“In this regard, the UEFA Executive Committee has decided to include a provision allowing clubs to register a maximum of two additional players, who have previously been registered with a club affiliated with the UAF or the FUR and whose contracts have been suspended in accordance with Annex 7 of the FIFA RSTP”, concluded UEFA in a statement.
