In a press conference on Monday, coach Roberto Mancini showed confidence in Italy’s qualification for the world Cup. Next Thursday, the Italian team faces North Macedonia for the repechage and, in case of victory, duel against Portugal or Turkey, to win the place in the World Cup.
“I am confident because I know that I have good players and professionals who have built a victory in European Championship from scratch, when no one believed. Trust must come from that, from what we’ve done. The team is solid, has qualities, and the objective is to win the World Cup, and for that we have to win these two games first”, said Mancini.

When asked about the call-up of the Brazilian naturalized Italian João Pedro, the coach said that the striker can play more than one role on the field and can be very useful.
“I tried to call who could be most useful. We don’t have much space to try new things. The base is Euro players, but I can’t call 40. Of course, leaving a player at home is always a pain, whether it’s Balotelli, Calabria or Bernardeschi. But the evaluation was the same: João Pedro can also play as a second striker, as well as a spearhead, the evaluations were like this”, he commented.
Mancini also took advantage of the press conference to talk about Donnarumma, who has been questioned in recent days, after a decisive failure in the Champions League in the game between PSG e Real Madrid.
“Do I worry? Absolutely not. It’s better to have him on our side than against”, he added.
