The National Superintendence of Customs and Tax Administration (SUNAT) communicated that it plans to reach a record collection figure during the current 2021 Annual Income Tax Declaration Campaign with revenues that would approach S/ 9,000 million and a growth that would exceed 20% what was obtained in the previous campaign.
This was announced by the national superintendent, Luis Enrique Vera, who specified that the most recent estimates of the entity indicate that this campaign would greatly exceed the S / 6,700 million previously reached, which at the time marked a historical maximum of collection for this same concept.
“This important figure, projected to be around S/ 9,000 million, reflects, on the one hand, the better performance of economic activity in 2021, which exceeded expectations, highlighting mainly the mining and hydrocarbon sectors, among others; as well as the recovery of domestic demand and its impact on business results”, he stated.
Another factor that would contribute to this result is the higher amount to regularize for Income Tax due to the fact that the payments on account made in 2021 did not fully reflect the recovery of that year, because they are made based on the results of the previous year (2020).
The institution points out that this high projected growth is supported by the actions that have been adopted to improve voluntary compliance, by facilitating processes, preventive management of the risk of circumvention and evasion, improvement in the management of litigation and also the streamlining of foreign trade operations, among other aspects.
Last days for the annual declaration
Less than a week before starting the expiration schedule for the campaign, which runs from March 25 to April 8, depending on the last digit of the taxpayer’s RUC number, Nearly 350,000 taxpayers have already complied with submitting the return in advance.
Of that amount, more than 66% corresponds to natural persons and 34% to companies.
The procedure to make the declaration is completely virtual and fast, since it takes a few minutes to complete it. In the case of natural persons, It can be done through the People APP or Virtual SUNAT through the Virtual Form No. 709; and, in that same procedure, the corresponding debt can be paid, divided into installments or, if there is a balance in favor, a refund can be requested.
In the case of companiesthe annual return is also filed online, through Virtual Form No. 710 (simplified or complete), which contains reference information on the balance in favor, payments on account and tax withholdings, as well as the Temporary Tax on Income. Net Assets (ITAN), among others.
