FIG urged to disqualify the Russian gymnast who applied the letter Z on the form

The FIG called for a one-year disqualification of the gymnast Ivan Kulyak, who applied the letter Z on the form

The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) has called for a one-year ban on Russian gymnast Ivan Kulyak. This was told to TASS by the coach of the national team Valentina Rodionenko.

“The International Federation made this decision under pressure from the Ukrainians, and some of them even advocated our lifelong disqualification. Now lawyers are working with us, who hope that they will recapture us, but I myself doubt this outcome of the case, ”she shared. Rodionenko noted that the suspension would also affect her, as the head of the Russian delegation at the tournament in Qatar, and leading coach Igor Kalabushkin.

Rodionenko added that the final decision should be made by the disciplinary commission of the Independent Gymnastic Ethics Foundation. “Allotted three weeks for everything, they want to complete the case as soon as possible. The decision should be made at the end of March,” she said.

On March 6, Kulyak applied the letter Z on the form before the awards ceremony at the World Cup in Qatar. With this symbol on his chest, the athlete received a bronze medal won in exercises on parallel bars.

On March 4, the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) suspended Russian athletes from international tournaments. The decision came into force on March 7, so the Russians took part in the World Cup in Qatar as neutral athletes.
