This victory was Nadal’s 954th in open court matches. Thus, the Spaniard broke the historical record of the Swiss Roger Federer, who has 953 wins.
In the final, 35-year-old Nadal will face 24-year-old American Taylor Fritz, who previously defeated Russian Andrey Rublev. The match will take place on Sunday, March 20.
