Charles Leclerc wins pole position and will start first in the Bahrain Grand Prix that opens the Formula One World Championship | Other Sports | sports

The Monegasque charles leclerc (Ferrari) will start first this Sunday in the Bahrain Grand Prix which is disputed in sakhir circuit and that opens the Formula One World Championshipwhere this Saturday he was the best in the qualifying session, ahead of his teammate Spanish Carlos Sainz who finished third.

Leclerc, 24, achieved his tenth pole since he races in F1 by covering the 5,412 meters of the track on the outskirts of Manama -the country’s capital- in one minute, 30 seconds and 558 thousandths, 123 less than Dutch Max Verstappen (Red Bull), last world champion, who will start second; and that he improved Sainz’s time by only six thousandths, who will start from the second row, next to the other Red Bull, the one from Mexican Sergio Perez.

The other Spaniard, the double world champion Asturian Fernando Alonso (Alpine), will start eighth, from the fourth row; and next to Danish Kevin Magnussen (Haas).

Both will start behind the seven-time world champion english lewis hamilton (Mercedes) and his former partner, the Finn Valtteri Bottasnow in Alfa Romeo, which will start from the third row.

From the fifth they will face the first race of the Formula One World Championship -scheduled for 57 laps, to complete a route of 308.2 kilometers- the english george russell, new driver Mercedes; and the french pierre gasly (Alpha Taurus). (D)
