Two champions of the Copa Libertadores, the Paraguayan Olimpia and the Argentine Estudiantes de La Plata, entered the group stage of the tournament on Thursday along with the Brazilian América Mineiro and the Bolivian The Strongest at the conclusion of the third round of playoffs, in the that the Ecuadorians Barcelona SC and Universidad Católica were marginalized.
After completing this stage, Conmebol revealed today the ballot boxes for next Friday’s draw for the Libertadores group stage. Both Independiente del Valle and Emelec, the champion and runner-up of the LigaPro Serie A, are part of group 2, both being the only representatives of Ecuador that will compete in this instance.
The Paraguayans Cerro Porteño and Libertad, the Chileans Colo-Colo and Universidad Católica, the Brazilian Corinthians and the Argentine Vélez Sarsfield were also included in group 2.
Conmebol anticipated that the current champion, Palmeiras, will be seeded in Group A.
The draw for the group stage will take place on March 25 in Luque, Paraguay, starting at 12:00 (10:00 in Ecuador).
