Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin named NHL Most Valuable Player nominee
The Association of Hockey Journalists has named applicants for the “Hart Trophy” – a prize for the most valuable player in the regular season of the National Hockey League (NHL). This was reported on the league website.
Florida Panthers forward Jonathan Huberdeau is the leader of the vote. In the poll, he scored 52 points, 7 out of 16 journalists put him in first place. The second position was taken by the Russian goalkeeper of the New York Rangers Igor Shesterkin. He has 44 points and three first places. Rounding out the top three was Toronto Maple Leafs forward Oston Matthews with 41 points.
In total, three Russians got into the top ten of the rating. Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin finished sixth, while Minnesota Wild forward Kirill Kaprizov was ninth.
In the current NHL season, 26-year-old Shesterkin has played 40 games, 29 of which ended in victory for the Rangers. In total, the Russian spent 87 meetings for the club. Shesterkin has been playing in the NHL since 2019.
