The RFU said they are waiting for the CAS decision to postpone the play-offs of the Russian national team to the 2022 World Cup
The Russian Football Union (RFU) reacted to the ban left in place by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) for domestic clubs and teams to participate in International Football Federation (FIFA) tournaments. It is reported by RBC with reference to the press service of the organization.
“CAS decided to refuse to satisfy the RFU’s request for interim measures in the form of a suspension of the decision on the claim against FIFA for the duration of the trial,” the union responded.
The RFU said that in the near future a CAS decision is expected on a separate request on the possibility of postponing the play-offs of the 2022 World Cup qualification round with the participation of the Russian team to a later date.
The CAS decision became known earlier on March 18. The court considered the appeal of the RFU, which the organization filed on March 7.
At the end of February, many international sports organizations began to remove Russians from tournaments. In some disciplines, such as football, hockey, cross-country skiing and biathlon, athletes are completely suspended. In motorsport, cycling, tennis and chess, Russians can continue playing in a neutral status.
