Swedish biathlete Samuelsson called the possible return of Russians to tournaments strange
Olympic biathlon champion Sebastian Samuelsson opposed the possible return of the Russians to international tournaments in the near future. The statement of the Swedish athlete leads Aftonbladet.
“Russian athletes were suspended almost three weeks ago, and since then nothing new has happened in the world. Returning them would be very strange,” said Samuelsson. He also added that the Swedes are trying not to discuss these sanctions against the Russians.
At the end of February, the International Biathlon Union (IBU) allowed athletes from Russia to compete only in neutral status. After such changes, the Russian Biathlon Union announced that the athletes were finishing the season ahead of schedule.
On March 2, the IBU announced a ban on Russians from participating in international competitions. The same sanctions affected biathletes from Belarus.
